For what the game is, free, it is quite good. I find the space combat to be quite entertaining and different enough from most other space combat games where shields are not just an additional, perhaps quicker regenerating, HP bar, but an obstacle to get through before you start blasting the bastards with torpedoes :)
Buuuut.. there are definitely issues with the game. The ground combat is very clunky and movement is quite awkward, the TSing seems a bit odd, since I have yet to find another place with an R&D section beyond Memory Alpha.
Overall though, I find it an amusing timewaster while nothing else is going on.

Also I forgot to mention another great addition to STO.. the ability for players to create missions for others to play ingame.
