I really enjoyed this article. I missed the 8 and 16-bit generation (apart from having a C64 as a kid). Wasn't until 2000 that I got a PS1 and into gaming. Ironic, as I'd been a games programmer from 1994 to 1997 :-)
There was a great Monday night games show on capital radio called 'One Life Left' that used to play a few chiptunes every episode. Now I'm reminded I'm going to see if they are still going... yup! (http://www.onelifeleft.com/)
Also interesting is the mainstream co-opting of chiptune. Stuff by Apoptygma Berzerk and NIN has had 8-bit interludes and tracks. Actually I think some stuff by The Knife does too.
